Apologetics Series
Info
Apologetics (from Greek meaning speaking in defense) is regarded as the discipline of defending religious doctrines through systematic argumentation and discourse. When it comes to apologetics, many will say that God does not need defending. True. He is God. Yet we are in a covenant with God, therefore, God’s interest should be ours, and as God cherishes His Kingdom and Truth, so we must diligently and passionately uphold God’s Truth, along with the ‘culture’ of the eternal Kingdom. As ambassadors of reconciliation and citizens of the Kingdom, it should perturb us if the Kingdom, therefore, God’s truth and ways are under attack.
God indeed is almighty, but the Church has been established on earth to be His voice, to shine His light and to be the salt of the earth. If we are not going to stand up for the truth, are we truly shining our light and being the salt? If we fail to be concerned about rampant apostasy, growing deception, heresy, spiritual corruption and demonic activities, especially within the church, then we do we truly have the mind and heart of God? To stand up for God’s Kingdom does not mean God cannot defend Himself, it means we love God so much that is pains us deeply to see His Name being dragged through the mud and for Him to be mocked.
1 Peter 3:15 calls us to be prepared to give an answer for the hope that is within us and to do so with gentleness and respect. Such is the nature of apologetics. We are not called to be silent in the wake of depravity, but neither judgmental in anger or criticism. We are called to uphold God’s truth and honour His Kingdom.

Ephesians 1
7 In Him we have redemption [that is, our deliverance and salvation] through His blood, [which paid the penalty for our sin and resulted in] the forgiveness and complete pardon of our sin, in accordance with the riches of His grace 8 which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and understanding [with practical insight] 9 He made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ, 10 with regard to the fulfillment of the times [that is, the end of history, the climax of the ages]—to bring all things together in Christ, [both] things in the heavens and things on the earth. 11 In Him also we have received an inheritance [a destiny—we were claimed by God as His own], having been predestined (chosen, appointed beforehand) according to the purpose of Him who works everything in agreement with the counsel and design of His will, 12 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ [who first put our confidence in Him as our Lord and Savior] would exist to the praise of His glory. 13 In Him, you also, when you heard the word of truth, the good news of your salvation, and [as a result] believed in Him, were stamped with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit [the One promised by Christ] as owned and protected [by God]. 14 The Spirit is the guarantee [the first installment, the pledge, a foretaste] of our inheritance until the redemption of God’s own [purchased] possession [His believers], to the praise of His glory.
